Berlin, November 2089: The Cold War never ended. For 150 years both sides have used time manipulation technology to observe and counter each other’s every move. Now this fragile state of affairs is approaching a breaking point, as a rogue nuclear strike will send the world into turmoil. All Walls Must Fall is an isometric tactics game where actions happen to the pulsing beat of the music. You control time travelling secret agents as they jump and loop through a single night in the city of Berlin. Using a pausable real-time system, carefully plan your decisions and use powerful time manipulation abilities to your advantage, as you carry out your mission in the shadows or in plain sight. Levels are procedurally recombined, giving All Walls Must Fall a highly replayable campaign structure, while still offering individually crafted components and set-pieces.

All Walls Must Fall takes inspiration from genre classics like X-Com, Syndicate and REZ, as well more recent indie games like The Banner Saga, Braid, SUPERHOT and Crypt of the Necrodancer.

Germany-based developer inbetweengames — who is comprised of three ex-YAGER developers that previously worked on Spec Ops: The Line and Dead Island 2 — has announced that its Tech-Noir tactics game (and former successful Kickstarter title), All Walls Must Fall, is poised to launch on PC, Mac, and Linux via Steam Early Access on August 8th.

As mentioned in the title — and as pitched by the developers themselves — All Walls Must Fall is XCOM meets Braid. An isometric action tactics game and tech-noir spy thriller, All Walls Must Fall is set in an alternate history Berlin 2089 where the Cold War never ended. In it you command secrets agents who must prevent nuclear annihilation and bring down the Wall.

More specifically, the game picks up after 150 years of Cold War where both sides have used temporal technology to counter each other’s every move. However, this tango is at an end thanks to a rogue nuclear strike, which has both sides sending agents back in time to found out who did it and how to prevent it before everything turns to ash forever.

Over the course of a journey that jumps and loops through a single night in Berlin, players will unravel the conspiracy keeping the West and East locked in this drawn-out struggle and oppression. Lines between factions soon become blurred, making choices difficult. Which side to play? Who to side with? Who can you trust?
